This past August 2021, our studio preformed our first ever live student showcase at the JCC Theatre. Thank you to all who came to support our dancers as they showcased some of the work from our classes at the studio. This was also a great opportunity for us to give back to the community as we raised over $250 to donate to the Women for Women International Organization. If you weren't able to attend don't worry, we will plan to have another fantastic show next year in 2022! What a year...
I hear you, you have been at home for months, you have lost track of your routines, and to top it all off, now you don’t know where or how to start (or start again, no shame!). And let's be honest, who didn’t have one of these periods during 2020, right? Covid-19 has changed our way of life in so many ways. From working from home, to not going out, to the kids' e-learning, and everything in between. Many of us are exhausted and whether we like it or not, exercise has unintentionally taken the back burner.
You are not alone here, and the good news is - there are doable and exciting ways to get those routines back on track in 2021. Classes are one of the best ways to ease back in, and here’s why - you skip the research of finding that perfect fitness app, you are guided by experienced instructors who can customize the workouts with you, you make friends (with amazing people, if we do says so ourselves), and you help your incredible body while you are at it! Our dance and fitness studio classes are affordable and geared to welcome everyone who is willing to give us a try!
Daily physical activity is key to healthy living.
It sounds obvious, I know, but you gave up a lot when the world went on lock down (understandably so), and for some of you, exercise was one of the first things to go. Your schedules became jumbled, workdays merged into evenings, and you were no longer able to go to gyms. The motivation to find that fitness app slowly disappeared from your to-do lists, and then bam - months have flown by!
Here’s a little secret - you can start from anywhere at any time, and it will positively impact your health(no one has to know!). Moderate intensity exercise is linked to a stronger immune system, healthier heart and lungs, and it can help with your stress, anxiety and depression. There is no doubt that 2020 affected at least one of these stressors in ways we never could have imagined, but there are many things we can do to slowly gain or regain positive routines.
Routine exercises can also help those who have underlying conditions like cancer or immune deficiencies. One of the best ways to protect yourself from the effects of Covid-19 is to stay active and healthy. A recent study found that 78% of those who were heavily affected and hospitalized with Covid-19 were obsese. Exercising regularly not only helps you lose the extra weight and keeps you healthy, but can also help save your life! Strengthening your body at the Barre Dance and Fitness studio with exercise is a win-win situation, you get to help yourself while also becoming an amazing member of a family like community who really cares!
Make exercise a habit you can't break.
The suggested amount of exercise is 150-300 minutes per week of moderate-intensity physical activity. But for habit and goal purposes, let's break that up a bit. When we divide that up into 5 days a week, it's much less of a hurdle, and it becomes only 30-60 minutes a day - of any exercise. This can be any movement that gets our heart rate up, don’t overthink it!
Have you noticed how goals are much less daunting when you break them up? Let’s be real here, I know when you read 150-300 minutes a week, your mind immediately thought about your long busy days, and made a B-line to the “nevermind” door. But, now with it broken up, you see that it is something surprisingly doable. And truthfully, when you find something you love, 30-60 minutes turns into nothing and can be something to look forward to everyday!
And, because our habits and routines were disrupted, we have somewhat of a clear slate here. We have room to redo our goals and our prompts to spring us into action. For example, we all have that outfit that we always use for a workout. Some of us who really have it together have that energy drink or protein drink that pushes us to do that tough workout. Try to create small habits, things that will help you go from one step to the next to reach those exercise goals, no matter how small they are. You could even make driving to the dance and fitness studio your new habit!

Whither you're a morning person or night owl, I challenge you to incorporate yoga into your daily routine every day. Most of you have heard of the endless benefits to practicing yoga both physical, spiritual, and mental, so ask yourself what's holding you back from sticking to your practice?
